Ministries that Feed the Hungry

Zion Food Ministry

Through Zion’s Food Ministry, the congregation’s generous donations of canned goods, non-perishable food, hygiene products, and household goods are donated to local food pantries. Recent recipients include Central New York Veteran’s Outreach Center, St. Margaret’s Food Pantry, Seeds of Hope Food Pantry, Utica Rescue Mission, and Foothills Rural Community Food Pantry. Zion Food Ministry also responds with grocery gift cards when emergency food insecurity needs are identified.

Your Neighbors

Your Neighbors is a community non-profit organization that provides prepared meals to those in need. Zion is one of several area churches that support Your Neighbors through food donations, cook-ins, and monetary donations.

“Souper” Bowl Sunday

Each year, Zion participates in “Souper” Bowl Sunday, which is held in tandem with the annual NFL Super Bowl. Zion members collect several hundred cans of soup, which are donated to area food pantries.

World Hunger

Zion Lutheran Church is an active supporter of ELCA World Hunger. Members generously donate funds to this effort throughout the year helping to alleviate food insecurity worldwide.

 Equal Exchange and Fair Trade

Zion members have the opportunity to purchase a variety of Equal Exchange and Fair Trade products (coffee, tea, nuts, chocolate, etc.) which directly benefit small farmer co-ops throughout the world. Zion donates all proceeds from these sales to ELCA World Hunger.
